UDP Streaming with a router in the middle

Hi,

How i can streaming in a UDP with a router in the middle, without using a VPN, only portforwarding between local, remote router, microPMU and PC. I used a VPN to connect LAN-LAN and use ipadress to connect directly microPMU to PC. But now i want to not use a VPN.

I am using NAT configuration to access microPMU on HTTP. But how datastreaming UDP? In microPMU which is the best “spot” to send data, router 1 or router 2?

I tried both, but the commands of configuration frame from microPMU to PC had destination unreachable. This happen because microPMU try to send package to a router and not to PC. PC is listenning on a port of router 1 or 2.

I don’t know if i explain well. Try with this.

PMU Simulator IEC 61850-90-5

Hello everyone,

I am trying to write a PMU simulator that generates random DataFrame bases on “IEC 61850-90-5” Standards in order to test it with OpenPDC.

However, i haven’t be able to find any open source libraries nor any free similar software to give me an idea to how to do it.

I was wondering if its possible to use GSF framework to generate IEC packet or any other libraries ? preferably i would to run the simulator over the WAN.

I would really appropriate if anyone could help me or direct me to the right path / materials.

Thank you

Awaiting configuration frame

Hello all,

When I run the PMU Connection Tester, the screen hangs on “Awaiting configuration frame…”.

I’ve double checked the setup.ini file of the uPMU to ensure that I’ve used the correct IP address for TCP connection, correct port, and correct Device ID. It connects successfully. I’ve also double checked on Command Prompt to see whether or not the connection has been established through there using the netstat command. It checks out, and the corresponding IP address and port coincide. I’m able to ping the IP address successfully as well. The connection also pops up on WireShark.

So, I believe that the connection is truly there. However, when I’m looking at the graphical interface, it’s always “Awaiting configuration frame…”

The obstacles I can see that may be a problem is a potential firewall problem as my company has strict security. I may have also configured my network “creatively” as this is only the second network I’ve ever setup, but if the devices are able to communicate with each other via Command Prompt and the connections can be seen through WireShark, then it should be good enough, right?

Is there anything else I should inspect further? As a novice, this is all the troubleshooting I know to do.

I am quite a newbie when it comes to networks. So please be patient with me.

Thanks in advance!

Hello everybody.

I try to connect, simulate my SIEMENS SIPROTEC 5 device and PMU Connection Tester.

To demonstrate my device function (PMU), I think PMU Connection Tester is the best option.

However, Contrary to my expectations, I am failing in the operation of PMU Connection Tester.

I have properly set the device’s IP and port to PMU Connection Tester, but the connection is failing.

So, I want to check if there are any problems with what I have done.

Please give me advice.

Frame rate, Data rate in Real-time: How to Store?

$

Hi all,
I am sending synchrophasor data using a C37.118 python library.

I have managed to establish a connection and see the data in the GUI.
I am changing the frames per second dynamically in the PMU. The PMU configuration frame is changed during run-time. The resulting change in frame rate is displayed in the PMU Connection tester Frames/sec window [2], but the configured frame rate remains stuck to the initial value [1]. If I disconnect-Reconnect, the updated configured frame rate is shown. Any reason for this?
I have a two more questions:
  1. What is the unit of Bit rate (Mbps)? Megabits/second, right? [3]
  2. I want to record these frames/sec and bit rate (mbps) values along with the phasor values. Can I use openPDC to serve this purpose?
    Thanks in advance,
    Pratyush Das

No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it

I got a PSL microPMU device. After exploring the PMUConnectionTester, I ran into a problem that I tried for a while to solve but failed. Does anyone know how to solve it by any chance?

The error showed up when I clicked the connect button of the PMUConnectionTester. The attachment shows what the error said.

I am sure the IP address of the device and the device port are correct. I even tried disabling the firewall flag in the Security_settings section of the setup.ini file.

My laptop has connected the PMU device via a network cable, and they are in the same LAN.

Header Frame response not accepted

$

I am using testing my PMU using the test tool. I request Header Frame from PMU but the tool reacts in a manner I do not expect,

Command “SendHeaderFrame” requested at 5/20/2021 10:22:43 PM
Exception: Attempted to divide by zero.

Nothing appears in the “Header Frame” window pane, and no Header in the “Protocol Specific” pane.

I am using the latest version of the tool, v4.6.3.

Here’s a screen shot of the Wireshark response from my PMU to the tester:

Can anyone spot an obvious error in my implementation of the Header frame response? Or could there be a configuration problem (user error)? Or maybe a bug in the tool?

Data Frames not recognized by PMU Tester

I believe I now have the CFG, HDR, and Transmission Enable/Disable commands working with sensible data being returned (perhaps with a tweak or two to come). Now I’m sending Data Frames to the PMU Connection Tester over UDP to the tester’s UDP port number, but the tool does not seem to recognized the data.

Here is a Wireshark capture at the PC on which the PMU Connection Tester (PDC) is running:

Note the steady stream of Data Frames, ~10/sec, to UDP port 4712. Here is the test tool screen:

The tool obviously does not receive, or accept, the data frames that Wireshark indicates are present at the designated port number. I have run the data through my on-line CRC calculator and verified the Data Frames are correct. I believe 0xAA01 is the correct Sync value for Data. What am I missing? I assume this is user error again.

PMU tester connection error

Hello, I was trying to connect the PMU tester with openPDC but couldn’t really connect once I defined the IP address and everything. Every time I try to connect, it says “no connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it” as in the attached screenshot
However, during the installation, I try to follow the instructions given by the GPA but once i try to test the connection, it says ‘Database connection failed’ as attached screenshot
If anyone could help, I would really appreciate it.

Unable to view output on PMU Connection Tester application and RT-Lab

I executed a model consisting of IEEE C37 Protocol and IEEE-39 bus system using RT-Lab and Simulink. The model is successfully executed in the software and I can view the output on Simulink. All the plots can be viewed using Simulink scope. However, when I connect this to PMU Connection Tester software, I can not view the output here. I checked other models too and in that case, PMU Tester gives proper plots. From my end, I have configured all the settings properly and verified them many times. Any help is appreciated.

Having Problems connecting OPAL RT HYPERSIM with OPEN PDC Connection Tester

$

Dear Support Team,
I hope that you are having a great day. My name is Hamza and i am currently working as a Student Research Assistant at Otto von Guericke Universität Magdeburg, Germany along with my Masters.

As a part of my student assitant job, I have developed a model of 9-Bus system and on some of the buses there are Phasor Measurement Units (PMUs) connected. Now I am trying to connect these PMUs with OPEN PDC PMU Tester to get the output in real time. Since i am almost new in this, thus I need help. I have setup the IP address and port number in the I/O Interface of OPAL RT HYPERSIM and same ip adress and port number is set in PMU Connection tester as can be seen.

I am unsure what doesAwaiting configuration frame means? I would also like to mention that I am running this simulation on local host with IP Adress 141.52.44.171. There is also an Hardware simulator available which is connecte with PC using IP address 141.44.52.167. When i am trying to connect with hardware simulator its is ging me an eror that Connection closed by remote device and A connection can not be established because target computer refused the connection

Your response in this regard wil be very helpful for me.

Kind Regards,
Hamza Ansari.

Phasor magnitude parsing not working with CFG-3 and integer format

$

I’m using PMU Connection Tester version 4.7.1 and my PMU is configured with the phasor format as Integer. When I use the 2011 protocol the CFG-3 frame is requested. The CFG-3 frame is sent by my device and the data frames are correctly decoded except that the phasor magnitudes show up as 0 (angles get parsed correctly). Wireshark will correctly decode the phasor magnitudes. Floating point is ok.

Using the 2005 protocol (where CFG-2 is used) everything works fine.

From other posts it seems that the 2011 may not be fully working yet, can someone please confirm if my observation is a known issue?

Hello all, I am trying to connect GTNET PMU in RTDS with the nominal frequency of 60 Hz. If I change the frequency in the RTDS simulation close to 60 Hz, the frequency is not shown in the graph. However the real time frequency is getting change in the real time data output. If the frequency is changed to 50 or 70 Hz, the frequency chart is showing the frequency value. Please suggest me a solution.

Communicating with a C37.118.1a-2014 protocol device

$

Hi everyone!

I’m trying to use PMU Connection Tester V4.7.4 to communicate with a PMU Unit, make Siemens Siprotec model 7SJ82. The device support C37.118.1a-2014 protocol version. Do you think it will be possible to communicate this version of the Tester with that PMU unit?. I’ve tried with UDP variant with no success; everytime the PMU closes the communication at the first attempt.

Thanks a lot!
